Sealand, a former military platform which has become an independent State, is preparing to launch its own virtual casino from 2nd September. The island is situated 6 miles east of the British coast.

Nicknamed “The Principality”, Sealand is a self-proclaimed state called Fort Roughs, built by the British during the Second World War and operating under its own jurisdiction. It offers tax-free winnings for casino players.

Sealand has just announced the opening of Sealandcasino.com, the first national online casino, a decision that is perceived as a provocation to American legislation in this field.

Many companies, including those offering online poker, are interested in buying out Sealand and using it to host their servers and thus escape the possibility of different sanctions. However, it is yet to be seen how Sealand proposes to offer bank guarantees to its customers.
