World Series of Poker 2007: Jerry Yang is the new world champion !

At the end of final table lasting nearly 16 hours, 39 year-old Jerry Yang walked away with the 8.25 million dollar prize and the most sought-after winner’s bracelet in the Main Event of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Jerry Yang, a Californian psychologist and social worker, is an amateur who has only been playing poker for two years ! This was therefore his first participation in the World Series of Poker !

6,358 players started the tournament at the Rio Casino in Las Vegas on July 6th 2007. Only 8 players from all over the world managed to battle their way through to the final on Tuesday 17th July.

Following the tradition of all the great poker champions, Jerry Yang has promised to donate 10% of his winnings to charitable associations : “Feed the Children”, the “Make a Wish Foundation” and the “Ronald McDonald House”.

All poker players have set their sights on another encounter in two months’ time for the World Series Of Poker Europe, which starts on 10th September in London.
