Unibet prepares to take the ASO to court over its Tour de France ban

In order to gain the right to participate in the Tour de France, which sets off from London on July 7th, the Swedish betting company Unibet is preparing to take the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), organiser of the 94th Tour de France cycling race, to court in order to get its “Green Cycle” team admitted to the race.

The team is forbidden from participating in the Tour due to French legislation which prohibits advertising for online gaming and betting websites.

Unibet will address its complaint to a court in England : the host nation of the start of the race and a country in which gambling has been liberalised for many years. In France, the Court of Nanterre court had dismissed Unibet’s request to participate in another race organised by ASO : the Paris-Nice, on March 9th of this year.
