Unibet: Betting on the weather forecast – a complaint is lodged with Brussels

On Thursday, the bookmaker Unibet launched a range of different bets on what the weather will be like throughout the month of August in Belgium.

Last year in Belgium, the month of August was particularly rainy after a scorching July. This year, Unibet is asking punters to predict whether it will be a rainy August, or whether the heatwave affecting Central Europe will hit the country.

At the same time, the Games of Chance Commission has lodged a complaint with the public prosecutor’s office against Unibet, on the grounds that this type of betting is illegal. According to the Flemish newspapers Het Nieuwsblad and Het Volk, a report has been drawn up and sent to the public prosecutor’s office.
