Tennis: The FFT bans online betting for Roland Garros

The French Federation of Tennis (FFT) has taken action in the Paris County Court in order to ban online betting on matches at the French Open at Roland-Garros.

Tennis offers numerous betting opportunities and the FFT intends to prevent the commercial and ethical abuses that jeopardise the image and organisation of the event.

The French Federation has already implemented a number of measures by controlling betting at the last Paris Bercy tournament because during recent years, tennis has been rocked by match-fixing scandals involving some of the world’s best players.

Three online betting companies in particular have been targeted by this ban, namely Bwin, Betfair and Ladbrokes. They will have to pay daily fines of €50,000 if they fail to comply with this ban.
