True to its principles, the United States would rather reach a compensatory agreement with the European Union than open up its gambling market to European operators.
Online gambling has been illegal in the United States since 2006. The European Union had protested against this ban and complained to the WTO who awarded compensation for this discriminatory policy.
But the United States is standing firm and is maintaining its stance concerning gambling. Instead it has preferred to offer concessions in other commercial domains. In this regard, concessions for postal, research, development, warehousing, analysis and testing services have already been granted.
Having not yet recovered the judgement, European online gaming operators are still hoping for the imminent liberalisation of the American market which accounts for half of the entire global market.
