From now on, La Française des Jeux, which holds the monopoly for online gaming in France, will be obliged to restrict access to its services by minors after the introduction of a new decree.
The French decree was warmly welcomed by the European Gaming and Betting Association, (EGBA) which represents the main online gaming and betting operators.
In the framework of promoting responsible gambling, the prohibition of gambling for minors has always been one of the priorities for European online gaming operators.
With this in mind, the terms and conditions of use published by all members of the EGBA state that access to their websites is forbidden for under 18s and that all players must confirm their identity when registering before being allowed to participate in any games and claim their winnings.
However, the EGBA regrets that this decision was really only taken as part of France’s current strategy for defending its online gaming monopoly against the challenge from Brussels.
