Malta: a new eldorado for bookmakers?

Malta, the small island state situated in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, has become the new eldorado for casino and poker operators, bookmakers and other sectors of the European online gaming industry.

27 new companies, attracted by the favourable legislation and the opportunity to obtain a European licence, have just been awarded an operating licence allowing them to do business from the Maltese Republic. These include: William Hill, Intercasino, Virgin Games, Littlewoods and Playboy Casino.

The recent publication of the white list, restricting access to the British market exclusively to operators based in the European Union or selected jurisdictions, has justified the bookmakers’ desire to set up in business in Malta.
