One week ago, Cologne Court confirmed the ban on Internet gambling and therefore on sports betting in Germany. The bookmaker Bwin had requested the lifting of this ban in the German States.

Bwin, which already possesses licences to operate in other European countries, was hoping to make its mark in Germany. The bookmaker considers that the current online gambling laws in Germany contravene European laws.

However, Bwin has not admitted defeat and intends to continue its legal battle against the German State. The bookmaker does not intend to stop offering its services in the country and risks further fines for continuing its activities.

A final judgement on this affair is expected in 2009.
