The German football club Werder Bremen and Bwin, the Internet betting company, have announced that they are ending their partnership after German legislation banned the advertising of Bwin’s activities.
Bwin has been Werder Bremen’s shirt sponsor since 2004, but, due to the extension of the State monopoly on gambling and lotteries for another four years in Germany, its logo was banned from appearing on the German club’s shirts.
Bwin will continue to support Werder Bremen but the team will now bear the logo of Citibank, the retail bank and subsidiary of the American giant Citigroup.
